Howdy,
Disco! I'm not quite sure how acid rock morphed into disco, nor how bell bottoms and granny dresses were tossed aside for leisure suits and gold chains, and glittery dresses. My circle of friends referred to the guys as "sophistos" and the girls as "glitter girls". It was as if the hippie "children" of the Sixties were growing up - "maturing". Kinda like the difference between high school freshmen and the senior prom.
However, not all the hippies became "sophisticated" nor did they give up their rock & roll. And on July 12, 1979 at the Chicago White Socks' Comiskey Park, disc jockey Steve Dahl gave disco a royal send-off with Disco Demolition Night. "Disco Sucks" was the theme, and the crowd became so exuberant that the second game of a double header had to be canceled.
A video report of Disco Demolition Night can be found on YouTube at: <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a_hBR9YuNw>.
