The Diggers are members of TRIBES who oversee important Tribal functions, such as food and drink procurement, entertainment, and other needs of the Tribe. Being a Digger is greater than just participating in a Bag. Your tribe depends on this group of members to supply refreshments at not only meetings, but outside functions. And I'm not talking about fruit punch and popcorn. For those who enjoy having fun with the food and beverage arts, they will want to become a part of The Diggers who bake brightly decorated butterfly cookies and present bottles of drinks with tags that say "Drink Me!" Another function of The Diggers is entertainment. Hippies were known to have used "street theatre" to make political and philosophical statements. One of the most well known was the San Francisco Mime Troupe. Members are encouraged to experiment with street theatre, however entertainment also includes setting up movies or sound recordings for tribal meetings. To learn more about The Diggers in the Sixties, check out the Digger website on the internet at: www.diggers.org/top_entry.htmI also recommend the book: "Ringolevio - A Life Played For Keeps" by Emmett Grogan.
